Alan Earl Cooper was born December 4, 1948, to Earl and Iona (Forney) Cooper in Grand Forks, ND. He grew up in Larimore, ND, where he attended school and graduated from Larimore High School in 1966. After high school, Alan enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the Bon Homme Richard off the coast of Vietnam. After three and a half years of service, Alan was honorably discharged on June 29, 1971. Alan married Jan Erhardt on September 2, 1972, at Christ the King Church in Mandan, ND. After marriage, Alan returned to college and graduated from Mayville State College. For the past 20 plus years Alan worked for the Bureau of Reclamation at Lake Tschida until retirement in June of 2009. Alan was a lover of music, enjoying playing the guitar, piano and singing. He was an avid golfer and recently revitalized his love of riding motorcycle. He became a member of the OPMC. His greatest love was his family. He enjoyed spending time with all family members. He was a very proud father and recently welcomed his first grandson, Logan, on his own birthday. Alan is survived by his wife, Jan, Glen Ullin; son, Mike Cooper, Bismarck; daughter, Erin (Adam) Kuntz, and their son, Logan, Mandan; mother, Iona Berg, Moorhead, MN; sister, Cindy (Jim) Legler, Detroit Lakes, MN; mother-in-law, Marian Erhardt, Glen Ullin; brothers-in-law, Jim (Linda) Erhardt, Almont and Ervin Erhardt, Loon Lake, WA; sisters-in-law, Diane Kohler, Arlyne Weinhardt, Melinda Wehri and Mary (Brian) Sibla, all of Glen Ullin; along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Earl; step-father, Dr. Milton Berg; and father-in-law, John Erhardt.
