Funeral services for Alan Wiemann, 52, San Carlos, Calif. , formerly of Dickinson, ND will be 1 p. m. , Monday, January 28, 2008 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson with Noel T. Vold officiating. Burial to follow in Dickinson Cemetery with Military Rites. Alan entered a primitive Sequoia forest for a solo day hike on December 12, 2007. Following a search of several days, his body was found on Christmas Eve. Alan Leroy Wiemann, born February 19, 1955 to Alvin and Sylvia Wiemann, was raised in Dickinson, North Dakota. He attended Public Schools, graduating his senior year as an AFS student in Austria. He served in the Navy and then worked at Bell Laboratories in New Jersey. He earned a Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, and later worked in the San Francisco Bay Area at Hewlett-Packard and InSilicon (acquired by Synopsys in 2002). He purchased a home in San Carlos, California, and lived there since 1999. Alan took time off from corporate work nearly three years ago to pursue some of his interests, including traveling, photography, hiking, motor biking, wine tasting and wine making. During this time he was also independently productive within his career field, writing a book entitled Standardized Functional Verification published by Springer in 2007. In recent months he began his own company, Verification Laboratories. Alan had an adventuresome and fun-loving personality that led him to numerous destinations around the world. He had an intense curiosity and knowledge about many different subjects, and he had an enormous capacity to communicate his knowledge to others. Alan leaves behind many friends in the Bay Area who loved biking, hiking and wine tasting with him. He is survived by his father, Alvin Wiemann, Dickinson, sister Kathy Sellie and husband Peter, Dickinson, brother David Wiemann and wife Teresita, Walnut Creek, California, brother Gary Wiemann and son Andrei, Elkridge, Maryland. Alan was preceded in death by his mother Sylvia Wiemann, Dickinson, and brother Brian Wiemann, Martinez, California, also formerly of Dickinson.
