Funeral Mass for Deacon Albert Hibl, 85, of Dickinson, formerly of Belfield, will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Dickinson with Father Jeff Zwack celebrating. Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan. Military Rites will be presented by the Dickinson Honor Guard.
Visitation for Albert will be from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday, August 29, 2011 at Stevenson Funeral Home with a Rosary and Prayer service being held at 7:00 p.m.
Al passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at St. Benedict’s Health Center in Dickinson, ND.
Albert Hibl was born November 2, 1925 the son of Vincent and Agnes (Kostelecky) Hibl at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Dickinson, ND. In 1944, Al was drafted into the Army. Al served in both the South Pacific and Japan and was honorably discharged in 1946. After his service in the Army, Albert returned to Dunn County to farm with his parents. On June 9, 1947, Al married Margaret M. Tuhy. To this union seven children were born: Ken, Larry, Cathy, Connie, Mary Lou, Laurie and Steve. Together, Al and Marge farmed in Dunn County and later rented Marge’s parents place near South Heart. In 1958, the couple purchased their own place four miles east of Belfield, ND. Al worked many different jobs over the years. He drove school bus, worked on various drilling rigs, moved haystacks for farmers and ranchers, worked for Hlebechuk Construction operating heavy equipment and ended his working career working for Missouri Basin Well Services repairing equipment and reseeding reclaimed oil well sights. His pride and joy was raising Black Angus cattle. Al also enjoyed bowling, playing cards, hunting, trapping, woodworking, welding and visiting with his friends and family. Al studied to become a Deacon in the Catholic Church and was ordained on June 11, 1989. He served on the church board at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Belfield, was a marriage and baptism instructor as well as serving as a Deacon for St. Bernard’s Parish for over eight years. When the family moved to Dickinson, he served as a deacon for Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Dickinson. Al was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus as well as a member of the Belfield American Legion. Al and his family received several awards including, Family of the Month in 1985 and 1987 and Family of the Year in 1986. Church and family were very important to Al.
Al is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret; three sons, Ken (Annie) of Clare, MI, Larry (Nancy) of Billings, MT; Steve (Michelle) of New England; four daughters, Cathie (Mel) Etzler, Killdeer, ND, Connie (John) Sawyer of Bowbells, ND, Mary Lou (Kelly Dolyniuk) Hibl of Belfield, ND and Laurie (Rocky) Solberg of Belfield, ND; one brother, Vincent (Georgie) Hibl of Dickinson, ND; one sister, Hattice Ficek of Moorhead, MN; 21 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Laudie and Leonard; one infant sister; one infant brother; and one brother-in-law, Vincent Ficek.
