A funeral service for Albert Wm. Schmidt, 77, of New England, will be 10:00 a. m. , Monday, October 10, 2016 in Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in New England with Pastor Bruce Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military rites will be presented by Anton Ulijohn Post #66. Visitation for Albert will be 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Sunday, October 9th at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson with a prayer service being held at 7:00 p. m. Albert passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at West River Medical Center, Hettinger, ND. Albert William was born March 13, 1939 in South Heart, the son of William A. and Hilda (Hupke) Schmidt. Growing up he attended the Scenic School #9, ten miles south of South Heart. Albert worked for area farmers until he enlisted in the US Army, serving from 1958-1960 with an honorable discharge. During his service, he served in Germany driving a General around the country. He returned to southwest ND and worked as a farmhand. On March 29, 1969, Albert married Georgeann Magelky in New England and they were blessed with two children, Crystal and Jason. Albert started Scenic construction with the love of his life and later with his brother, Allen. He had a great talent in taking things apart and fixing them up again. He also enjoyed woodworking, mechanics, and his cats. Albert dearly loved his granddaughters and enjoyed family gatherings with everyone around visiting and telling jokes. He was a member of Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in New England. Albert is survived by his wife, Georgeann of New England; son, Jason (Michele Stockert) Schmidt of Gladstone; daughter, Crystal (David) Sowell of Belle Fourche, SD; four granddaughters, Emily, Abbygail, Chloe, and Shaylynn; brother, Allen (Arlys) Schmidt of New England; sister-in-law, Marlene Wanner of Dickinson; brother-in-law, Roger (Meredith) Magelky; and four nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Hilda Schmidt; brothers, Harvey and Wilfred Schmidt; nephew, Brian Wanner.
