Funeral Mass for Albert J. Schmidt, 84, of Dickinson will be 10:00 a. m. Thursday, August 16, 2007 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson with Father Jeff Zwack, celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph?s Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will be from 9:00 a. m. to 9:00 p. m. Wednesday, August 15, 2007 followed by a Rosary and Vigil Service at 7:00 p. m. at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson. Visitation will continue Thursday, one hour prior to service at the church. Albert passed away Thursday, August 9, 2007 at his home North of Dickinson. Albert J. Schmidt was born May 30, 1923 to John and Katherina (Elberg) Schmidt in Dickinson, ND. He grew up in Dickinson, attended St. Joseph?s Elementary School and later graduated from Dickinson High School. He attended college for a year in Kansas City, MO, where he studied aeronautics. When Albert returned to Dickinson he continued to farm and did custom work along with working at the clay plant, Queen City Oil Refinery and REA Express in Dickinson. On February 4, 1952, he married Doloris Meyer at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church in Dickinson. They purchased the family farm northwest of Dickinson in 1960 and it was there that they made their home and raised their family. He raised dairy cows for a while along with small grain and hay that continues to this day . Albert enjoyed custom work, auctions and antique tractors but he especially enjoyed his time swathing. He loved traveling across the United States and Canada to visit relatives and friends. Survivors include his wife, Doloris, Dickinson; three sons: Allan Schmidt, Denver, CO, Douglas (Kathleen) Schmidt, Dickinson, ND and Gerald Schmidt, Billings, MT; a daughter, Cynthia (Al) Heidt, Glendive, MT; a brother, Nick (Francis) Schmidt, Dickinson, ND; a sister, Bertha Staudt, Batavia, IL and five grandchildren: Adam and Derek Schmidt and Dustin (Kristy), Devin and Christopher Schmidt;He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Bill and Ted Schmidt and a sister, Eleanor Schmidt.
