Alfred passed away Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Marian Manor Health Care Center in Glen Ullin.
Alfred was born May 17, 1918 in Hebron, the son of Martin and Martha (Petri) Underdahl. He grew up on the family farm north of Hebron until the age of four, when the family moved into Hebron. Alfred graduated from Hebron High School in 1936. He continued to dairy, milking cows and delivering milk with his father. On November 20, 1941, Alfred married Margery Krueger in Hebron. To this union, Aaron Elliot and Lynn James were born. Together they raised their sons on the farm. The family operated Brick City Dairy where they milked 45 dairy cows twice a day for over 50 years, selling the milk to Hebron Creamery for bottling. During this time, Alfred served on the Federal Farm Credit Board. He was very involved with organizations throughout his lifetime. He spent the last 20 years of his life actively working to bring rural water to Southwest North Dakota. Alfred farmed until 2010 when he retired and moved to Marian Manor in Glen Ullin. He enjoyed stamp collecting, working with HO trains (model railroad) and he loved playing cards. Alfred was very proud of his four grandchildren for earning their Master’s Degree in their chosen career field. Alfred was an active member of St. John Church, Masonic Lodge, Past Grand Master, York Rite, Scottish Rite, Cross of Constantine, Grand Commandry, Order of Eastern Star, El Zagel Shriners, Lion’s, School Board, Sons of Norway and he went to Washington, D. C. with Boy Scouts.
Alfred is survived by his sons, Aaron (Ardis) Underdahl of Dickinson, Lynn (Karen) Underdahl of Hebron; four grandchildren, Brian (Brenda) Underdahl, Thane (Helen) Underdahl, Jesse (Kathy) Underdahl, Tanya Jo (Tucker) Smith; and two great-grandchildren, Savannah Lynn Underdahl and Nikola Michael Santos Underdahl.
