Alice Hermes

Alice Hermes, 85, a loving and spirit-filled resident of St. Vincent’s Care Center in Bismarck died peacefully, surrounded by her children on Friday, March 6, 2015. She was born on July 30, 1929, the daughter of Christ and Johanna (Deitrich) Mosbrucker. She attended school in Glen Ullin and St. Mary’s in Richardton, ND. After receiving her high school diploma Alice worked for a short while at the Mandan JC Penney store. On June 14, 1948 she married a childhood neighbor and friend, Walter Hermes. She dedicated her life to her family. They raised seven children. She had a passion for gardening, cooking and sewing. She made quilts for every family member and volunteered with the “Blanket Brigade” which donated hundreds of quilts to various charities, including the God’s Child Project. She was an active member of the Christian Mothers and a Homemakers Club. She and Walter spent much of their leisure time fishing, a hobby they shared with family and friends. She is survived by her children Diane McKiernan, Sandra Giroux, Duane (Karen) Hermes, Gene Hermes, Christine Hermes-Parker, Rosemarie Kuntz, and Douglas Hermes, and twelve grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her siblings; Madeline, Marion, Eddie, Lawrence and Rosie, and infant daughter, Gloria Ann. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer that memorial donations be made to the ND Right to Life.
