George Allan was born June 6, 1946 in Dickinson, the son of George E. and Kathryn (Dvirnak) Lynch. Growing up he attended Dunn Center School through his sophomore year. Due to the school closing, he then attended Killdeer High School and graduated in 1964. Allan started his business degree at Dickinson State College before transferring to Wahpeton, where he received his auto mechanic degree. During this time he met the love of his life, Gail Olson. They were united in marriage on December 2, 1967, in Wahpeton, ND. They were blessed with three sons, Scott, Mike and Brian. Together, they raised the boys in Halliday where Allan worked as Chief of Police and for the ND State Highway Department. The family moved in 1987 to the Lynch family ranch in Dunn Center and have lived there since that time. Allan worked in the oilfield from the early 1980’s and later started his own oil contract pumping business called Oil Well Operators. He loved his life in the oil patch and was very proud of the work he did. Allan enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time at their Mosset Bay cabin. He just loved being in the outdoors. As a young man, he received his pilot’s license and enjoyed flying. In his later years, he enjoyed ‘big boy toys’ such as fast cars, having a love and need for speed. Allan and Gail worked many years to preserve the Lynch Knife River Flint Quarries which was deemed a National Historic Landmark. He had a special love for his grandchildren and loved watching and being at their activities. He was a very proud “gramps” and loved to tell everyone about them. Allan is survived by his wife, Gail; mother, Kathryn; sons, Scott (Cherri) of Dunn Center and Mike (Jan) of Bismarck; three grandchildren, Brienna “Bubbs”, Macy “Macer” and Kade “Kader”; sister, Kathleen (Doug) Messner of Pekin, ND. He was preceded in death by his father, George (1985); infant son, Brian (1973), brother and his wife, David & Susan Lynch (1976). In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to: Dunn County Historical Society.
