Alma Gittel, age 91, died Sunday, April 13, 2008 at the Marian Manor Health Care Center in Glen Ullin. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Central Time on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at the Evangelical Congregational Church in Glen Ullin. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 3-8 pm at the Spangelo Funeral Home in Glen Ullin, and one hour prior to services in the church. Burial will be in the Glen Ullin Cemetery. Alma was born February 27, 1917 at Turtle Lake, ND, the daughter of Edward and Christina (Fuehrer) Klinger. She was raised and educated in rural Turtle Lake. She worked on the family farm until she married John Bender in July of 1937. They farmed in the Turtle Lake area and they had one daughter Norrine. They moved to Bismarck and later to New Salem where they owned in partnership the Casa Loma. Alma married Clarence Gittel on Sept. 23, 1953 at the Peace Church in New Salem. They farmed in the Bluegrass area in rural Glen Ullin. Alma loved driving tractor, arranging flowers, and being involved in the Evangelical Congregational Church in Glen Ullin. After Clarence?s death, Alma moved to Bismarck. When her health declined, she retuned to Glen Ullin to the Marian Manor Health Care Center. Grateful for having shared in her life are her two daughters and sons-in-law: Norrine and Ed Vogel, New Salem, ND; and Meredith and Roger Magelky, Parker, CO; five grand children: Michael Nilles, Mitchell Nilles, James Nilles, Shannon Larson, Judy Muth, 11 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clarence, her sisters Violet and Bertha and her brothers Reuben and Eddy.
