CDT, Monday, April 20, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with a rosary and vigil service being held at 7:00 p. m. Alma passed away Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Marian Manor in Glen Ullin. Alma Wehri was born October 19, 1920, near Haymarsh, ND, the daughter of W. F. (William) and Marcellena (Potts) Wehri. She was the fourth of eleven children and attended school through the eighth grade at St. Clements Catholic Church in Haymarsh. Alma moved to Fort Jennings, Ohio with her sister Angie to work as a domestic maid for her grandmother. On January 6, 1946, Alma was united in marriage to Anton (Tony) Tavis in Haymarsh. The couple settled down and made their home on a grain and dairy farm a mile and a half north of Glen Ullin. In 1974 they retired and sold their farm to Mike and Mary Duppong. Alma spent many hours doing volunteer work for Sacred Heart Church. She was a member of the Christian mothers, bible study, passion play, liturgical flowers, lector for mass, food pantry, and was the co-host of the 1st Rural Life Mass for the Bismarck Diocese. Alma loved playing pinochle, especially on Sunday evenings with her brother Waldo and two sisters; Angie and Bernie. She played a good game right up until a month before she passed. Alma also kept a clear mind right up until her passing with handling all her own finances and investments. She loved gardening, baking, and crocheting. Her chocolate chip cookies were to die for. Alma was very conscious of her health and made sure to watch what she ate and walk for exercise. She was known as a hard working lady. There was no job she wouldn’t or couldn’t do. Alongside Tony they took care over 30 cows by themselves until the Duppong kids were old enough to help. Although Alma did not have any children of her own she had many nieces and nephews who she loved as if they were here own. Alma is survived by her brother, Cletus Wehri of Glen Ullin; sisters, Bernice Wehri of Marian Manor and Marcie Fruch of Glascow, MT; sister in-laws, Eleanor Wehri of Marian Manor and Marie Wehri of Miles City, MT; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents W. F. (William) and Marcellena Wehri; husband, Anton (Tony) Tavis; sister; Angela Duppong; and brothers; Harry, Urban, Arnie, Armin, Waldo, and Sylvester Wehri.
