Liturgy of the Word service for Alphonse Wandler, 88, of Dickinson, will be 10:00 am, Friday, December 29, 2017 at Stevenson Funeral Home with Father Todd Kreitinger celebrating. Burial will take place in St. Pius cemetery in Schefield, ND.
Visitation for Alphonse will be 5:00 -7:00 pm, Thursday, December 28, 2017 at the funeral home with a rosary service being held at 6:00 pm.
Alphonse passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at St. Luke’s Home, Dickinson.
Alphonse was born November 8, 1929 in Dickinson, the son of Martin and Mary (Wanner) Wandler. He grew up in the Schefield area and attended school through the eighth grade. He later moved west of New England. Alphonse met Mary Schulz and married her June 28, 1949 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, New England. To this union, eleven children were born. Alphonse was a farmer at heart and spent most of his life on the farm. In January 1989, they retired and moved to Dickinson. He also worked at Letvins and for the city of Dickinson. Alphonse was a member of the Eagles, St. Anthony, St. Pius Verein and German Hungarian. He enjoyed shooting pool, socializing, playing cards and butchering. Alphonse will be remembered for his favorite sayings, “don’t sweat the small stuff” and “think positive”.
Alphonse is survived by his wife, Mary Wandler; children, Dwight Wandler, Daryl (Phyllis) Wandler, Faye (Donald) Pavlicek, Sharon (Dean) Ficek, Donald Wandler, Dean (Leslie) Wandler, David Wandler, Doyle (Paula) Wandler, Rena (Tony) Biazzo, Amy (Allan) Urlacher, and Daniel Wandler; brother, Joseph Wandler; sisters, Catherine Splichal and Alena Broxmeyer; numerous grand, great, and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Mary (Wanner) Wandler; and step-mother, Mary (Ficek) Wandler.
