A Funeral Mass for Alvin E. Dietz, 87, of Dickinson, will be 9:00 A. M. , Monday, August 8, 2016 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Dickinson with Fr. Shannon Lucht celebrating. Burial will take place in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery. Visitation for Alvin will be from 2:00 P. M. -5:00 P. M. , Sunday, August 7 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson with a rosary and vigil service being held at 4:00 P. M. Alvin passed away Friday, August 5, 2016 at St. Luke’s Home in Dickinson with his family by his side. Alvin Edward Dietz was born August 25, 1928 in Forsyth, MT, the son of Carl and Mary (Lubs) Dietz. Growing up he received his education in Montana. At the age of 15, Alvin began sweeping floors in the Glendive roundhouse for the Northern Pacific Railroad. He worked his way up to the position of engineer which he held until his retirement from the railroad after 47 years. Alvin married Ida Mae Fugere on January 14, 1958 in Wibaux, Montana. Together, they made their home in Dickinson where they raised their family. After retirement, his favorite spot was Senior Ave, Mossett Bay on Lake Sakakawea. Family was important to Alvin. He loved teaching his children and grandchildren to fish, hunt and play cards. He enjoyed going on family vacations, the bi-annual Dietz family reunion, watching Bison football and helping his family on the farm. Alvin was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Elks Lodge #1137, the Southwest Anglers, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and the Barbershop Quartet. He was a charter member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church where he sang in the choir, served as an usher and helped with Lenten soup suppers. Alvin is survived by his wife, Ida Mae Dietz of Dickinson; son, Ronald Sr. (Mary) Dietz of Aberdeen, SD; daughters, JoAnn (Tom) Kalloch of Glendive, MT, Jean Grotberg of Bozeman, MT, Karen Oxenford of Littleton, CO, Renelda (Doug) Hushka of Fargo, ND, DeAnne (Arnie Jr. ) Rummel of Jamestown, ND and RaeLynn (Kyle) Schafer of Dickinson, ND; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and sister, Doris Kenney of Cody, WY. He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Mary Dietz; daughter, Wanda Lee; grandchildren, Paula Hoyer and Bradly Rummel; brothers, Carl Dietz, John Dietz, Arthur Dietz, Henry Dietz, and Walter Dietz; and sisters, Anna Chupp, Bertha Wolfe, Emma Beach, Helen Denham, Rose Register, Freda Schulenberg. Family suggests that memorials be made to Heartland Hospice or the North Dakota Alzheimer’s Association.
