A Funeral Mass for Alvina Soehren, 88, of Dickinson will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 12, 2024 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dickinson with Father Robert Shea celebrating. Burial will be held that afternoon at 3:00 pm CT, at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan.
Visitation for Alvina will be held from 5:00 -7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Stevenson Funeral Home with a rosary and vigil being held at 6:00 p.m.
Alvina passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Billings, Montana.
Alvina was born on December 30, 1935 in Havelock, North Dakota to Steven and Emma (Huether) Magelky. She was raised on the family farm just outside of Regent, where she helped with chores and attended a one room school house across the road, until taking a job as a waitress at a local café in town. Alvina married Eldon Soehren on June 6, 1957 in Regent. The couple was blessed with three children; Wayne, Michael and Deirdre. Eldon’s career took the family to numerous cities in North Dakota, until they settled in Watford City in 1969. Alvina worked at the Chuck Wagon cafe as a short order cook from 1973-1986. She started an in home daycare service in 1988, which she ran until retiring in 2011. After Eldon’s passing in 2013, Alvina moved to Dickinson.
Alvina enjoyed embroidering, baking her famous butterhorns, chocolate chip and butterscotch chip cookies, and making her fabulous icicle pickles. She was a member of the Women of Epiphany at Epiphany Catholic Church in Watford City, where she was a member until joining St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dickinson.
Alvina is survived by her children, Wayne (Mair Owen) Soehren of Wayzata, MN, Michael (Gaye) Soehren of Dickinson, Deirdre (Steven) Schwartz of Conrad, MT; her grandchildren, Marissa Soehren, Sean (Tara) Soehren, Shane Soehren, Christina (Mark) Forbes, and Bryn Soehren; great-grandchildren, Kinsley, Patrick, Theodore, Abigail, and Jack; siblings, Evelyn (James “Buddy”) Halvorson of Bismarck, Larry Magelky of Dickinson, Connie Wolf of Maple Valley,WA; and brother-in-law, Lee (Mary) Soehren of Pelican Rapids, MN.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Steven and Emma Magelky; husband, Eldon Soehren; and sister, Danelda Steier.
In lieu of flowers Alvina’s family suggests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
