Funeral Mass for Andrew ?Andy? Ficek, 82, of Dickinson will be 10:00 a. m. , Monday, April 19, 2010, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Father Jeff Zwack celebrating. Burial will be in the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in Dickinson following the funeral mass. Military Rites will be performed by the Dickinson Honor Guard. Visitation will be 9:00 a. m. to 9:00 p. m. , Sunday, April 18, 2010, at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson with a Rosary and Vigil Service at 4:00 p. m. Visitation will continue on Monday one hour prior to the service at Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Andy passed away peacefully with his family at his side Thursday, April 15, 2010, at his home in Dickinson. Andrew Emil Ficek was born May 2, 1927, to Joseph Ficek, Jr. and Anna (Binstock) Ficek on the family farmstead near New Hradec, ND. He attended Green River #1 Country School in Stark County. In 1946, Andy enlisted in the US Army, where he served in the Philippines and was honorably discharged in 1947. After his service duty, Andy worked for City Cleaners as a steam presser. On October 24, 1949, he married Dorothy Kudrna at St. Mary?s Church in South Heart, ND. Andy took over his family farmstead near New Hradec in 1950, and together he and Dorothy farmed and raised their nine children until moving to Dickinson in 1988. While he was farming, Andy did part time work for Dickinson Concrete and worked for Western Livestock as a Yardman. Andy and Dorothy retired from farming in 1992. He always stayed busy as the greatest fixit man around, if you brought it to Andy he could fix anything. Andy was a member of RSVP, a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1515. He enjoyed old time music and was the drummer and accordion player for the Happy Time Band, as well as playing and entertaining at many family gatherings. In his earlier years he enjoyed riding his horse 2-Bits. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, Dickinson; a son, Todd (Jean) Ficek, Dickinson, ND; six daughters, Sandra (Robert) Beck, Lake Park, MN, Deborah Mann, Bismarck, ND, Kathy (Cary) Reindel, Dickinson, Wanda (Darold Runge fianc?) Brewer, Dickinson, Darla (Tom) Baranko, Dickinson, and Brenda (Ken) Thielen, Dickinson; a brother, Pete G. Ficek, New England, ND; 14 grandchildren: Kelly (Dennis) Urban, Erin (Buck) McMahon, Jason Mann, Nicole Mann, Ryan (Deb) Reindel, Jeremy Reindel, Carrie (Josh Hansen fianc?) Reindel, Mandy (Bruce) Biffert, Tyler Brewer, Casey Thielen, Ashley Thielen, Brittany Thielen, Andrew ?Drew? Ficek, and Sami Ficek; six great-grandchildren: Tate, Austin, Kaleb, Jacob, Kadence and Reagan. Andy is preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Jerry and Jeff; 10 brothers, Louie, Joe, Frank, Clement, Ed, Bob, Ludwig, Steve, Emil, and Blaz; and one sister, Anne Ficek.
