Andrew ?Andy? Rettinger, 82, of Glen Ullin, and formerly of the New England area, died Thursday, March 28, at the Marian Manor Health Care Center in Glen Ullin. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM Mountain Time on Tuesday, April 3, at the St. Mary?s Catholic Church in New England, ND with Father Basil Atwell, OSB, as Celebrant. Visitation will begin after 5:00 pm on Monday at the church with Vigil services will be held 7:00 pm Mountain Time on Monday April 2, at the Church. Burial will be in the St. Mary?s Cemetery in New England. Andy was born November 9, 1924 at New England, ND the son of Frank and Mary (Jung) Rettinger. He was raised on a farm, and educated near New England. He worked in the Civilian Conservation Corp in San Diego for awhile and then retuned to New England. Andrew enlisted in the US Marine Corp. , shortly thereafter was discharged for medical reasons and began farming. He married Joyce Mellmer, May 2, 1945 at St. Mary?s in New England. Together they farmed, had dairy and range cows, and raised their family of 12 children. Life on the farm required Andy to wear many hats; he was a good mechanic, a horse man, took care of the veterinarian needs of his herd, along with the farm needs. In the 1960?s they bought the Ford Garage which they operated for several years. Over his lifetime Andy loved music, and played in several bands. He retired in 1988 and moved into Dickinson where he resided until 2004 when for health reasons became a resident of the Marian Manor. Andy is survived by his twelve children: Robert, Colestrip, MT; Carolyn Senechal, Rolette, ND; Duane, New Salem, OR; Donald, Bemidji, MN; Gordon, Bismarck, ND; LaVonne Johnson, Killarney, Manitoba, Canada; LeAnn Rettinger, Fargo, ND; Rhonda, LeFavre, Tijeras, NM; Linda Duppong, Glen Ullin, ND; David, Laramie, WY; Marcy Kilwein, Lawrence KS; Janel Ballard, Albuquerque, NM; 19 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Andy also leaves his brother Mike Rettinger, Forsythe, MT; and one sister Mary Lewis, of Helena, MT. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Franks and Robert, and one sister Christine.
