Anna, who was a loving mother and a woman of deep faith, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at St. Benedict’s Health Center in Dickinson.

Anna, the daughter of John and Margaret (Boehm) Stein, was born November 19, 1930 in Mandan, North Dakota. She grew up on the family homestead near Crown Butte, North Dakota and attended Crown Butte #4 rural school. After graduating from the eighth grade she continued to work on the family farm and was later employed at the Midway Truck Stop on Highway 10 between Mandan and New Salem. While working at the Midway, she met and in due course married Peter Ferderer on June 5th, 1950 at Saint Vincent Catholic Church in Crown Butte. They settled in New Salem, raised a family, and throughout their marriage they owned, operated, or managed numerous businesses including the Bee- Hive Cafe and Pete’s Meat Market in New Salem and later the Co-Op Store in Regent, ND. In 1969, they relocated to Dickinson where Anna excelled in a 33-year career as the lead cook at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson High School, and A.L. Hagen Junior High. She retired from the Dickinson Public School System in 2002.

Although she loved cooking and baking, her family was her pride and joy. Anna and Peter were blessed with five sons; Wayne, Terry, David, Steven and Randall, and four daughters; Kathleen, Paulette, Nadine, and Lucinda. Peter passed away in 1981 after thirty years of marriage.

In 1986 Anna married Florian Frank. Anna was especially proud of uniting two families together, combining her children with Florian’s children Dale, Dorothy, Eugene, Cletus, and Wanda. Along with spending quality time with the families, Anna thoroughly enjoyed camping with her brothers Daniel, Paul and Robert, family reunions, crossword puzzles, games of chance (bingo, Black Jack, and casino fun) and countless hours of cards with family and friends. Cooking and baking were her true specialties, and she made quite a name for herself in the Dickinson Public School System with her outstanding caramel rolls, baked treats, and German dishes which are still talked about to this day.

Anna is survived by her children Paulette Hutmacher, Killdeer ND; Wayne (Beverly) and Terry (Nancy), Dickinson ND; David (Laurie), Aurora CO; Nadine Morin (Mike Morton), Seattle WA; and Lucinda Gehrts, Steven and Randall, Dickinson ND; son-in-law Erick Ragsdale; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren as well as several sisters-in-law.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents, John and Margaret Stein; husband Peter A. Ferderer; husband Florian Frank; daughter Kathleen Ragsdale; son-in-law Michael Gehrts; and brothers Daniel, Robert, and Paul Stein; and sister-in-law Viola (Geiger) Stein.
