Annabelle died Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at St. Joseph's Hospital, with family at her side. Annabelle was born September 23, 1922 in Tuttle, ND to Herbert and Josie (Ashley) Swett. She graduated from Steele High School in 1940 and went on to attend Dickinson State Teacher's College. After working for the Farmers Home Administration, Annabelle followed her fiancé John J. Kubik who joined the Air Force following the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The couple was married in Independence, Kansas while John was stationed at Whiteman AFB in Sedalia, Missouri. Annabelle and John also lived in Lubbock, Texas while John attended advanced pilot school. In 1944, Annabelle and John were blessed with a daughter, Paula Jeanne. The young couple moved home to Dickinson in 1946 and founded the Flying K Ranch in Dunn County. They welcomed their second child, a son, Craig James, in 1948. The family ranched until 1981, when they rented the land, retired, and moved to town. They welcomed their only grandchild, Mandy Jean that same year. Throughout her life, Annabelle cared for many young people – nieces, nephews, the children of friends, and many others. She was a caregiver, protector, mentor, and spectacular worrier even into her final years at Hawks Point and St. Benedict's Nursing Home. She is preceded in death by her husband, John and son, Craig. Also preceding her were all her brothers and sisters, Robert Swett, Todd Swett, Darwin Swett, Jean Sherman, and Dacotah Soules. Annabelle is survived by her daughter, Paula (Billings, MT), her granddaughter, Mandy (Dickinson, ND), and sisters-in-law Delores Swett, Marge Swett, Susan Kubik, and Mildred Kubik. She is also remembered by her many nieces and nephews in the Swett, Sherman, Soules, Kubik, and Kadrmas families, and all the children who were loved by Annabelle.
