She died at the Richardton Medical Center. Anna Cornelia Clarys was born on April 17, 1920 on a farm 9 miles southeast of Dickinson, the second oldest child of Cornelius P. and Agnes (Ridl) Clarys. She grew up on the family farm 7 miles southwest of Dickinson where she attended school at Ash Coulee#1 and the New Hradec boarding school. Ann graduated from Dickinson Central in 1938 and received her higher education at Dickinson State College graduating in 1943 while simultaneously teaching school and attending summer classes. She began her teaching career in 1939 & retired in 1959 having taught in several rural schools including those in these districts: Green River, Elm Creek, New Hradec, Springvale, Little Knife, and Glen Ullin Public School. She was always a kind, patient, and persevering type of teacher and would remember and be remembered by her former students in years to come. She married Carl W. Schnaidt on August 28, 1943 in Dickinson. They lived in Dickinson and on the family farm north of Hebron, ND before building their new homestead in 1949 located 21 miles northwest of Hebron. Together they raised their family, farmed, ranched and continued living there. She was a life long member of St. Ann?s Catholic Church of Hebron, Christian Mothers, and the North Dakota Education Association. Ann truly enjoyed nature and the great outdoors whether it was bike riding in her earlier years, hiking and having picnics, growing large gardens of flowers and vegetables, enjoying rock collecting and bird watching, photography, and predicting the weather in her own special way. She was a whiz on the sewing machine and over the years, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren among others were treated to her beautiful quilts and other handiwork. She read every day and kept abreast of current events, worked crossword puzzles, collected stamps, kept her scrapbooks and photo albums up-to-date, and created her great tasting specialties in the kitchen. She was one of those types of people who put everyone?s needs before her own. Ann was one of the great letter writers and regularly kept in touch with all of ?her people?. Her refrigerator door was always covered with current cards from her family and many friends as well as newspaper clippings. She dearly loved and cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ann?s coffee pot was always on for family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers who became friends.
