Anton passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at his home in Dickinson. Anton ?Tony? Jaeger Jr. was born March 4, 1922, the son of Anton and Mary (Schmidt) Jaeger, on his father?s homestead located a mile west of Fayette along the Knife River. He attended school at the local country school, Fayette #5, and helped his parents on the family farm. On October 30, 1945, he married Frances Miller at St. Philips Church in Hirschville. Tony and Frances began their life together in a rock house on rented property about a mile Northwest of Fayette. In November 1945, only a short time after their wedding, Tony was drafted into the U. S. Army and was sent to Europe via transport ship USAT George Washington and stationed in Belgium for clean-up operations following World War II. He returned state-side in January 1947, and began establishing a farmstead at the current location of the Jaeger farm about a half-mile west of Fayette. With the help of his father, Tony constructed a shell of a three bedroom house on the rented property. After threshing time, the shell was moved to a spot of bare prairie where the current farm is located. He and Frances built all of the many fixtures on the farmstead and planted thousands of trees. Perhaps the only thing Tony liked better than a good stand of wheat was a beautiful grove of trees. There they farmed, ranched and raised their four children until retiring into Dickinson in the early 1980s. Even after retirement, Tony remained active with the farm operations, making frequent trips there and keeping things in repair. He served on various Co-op boards through the years and was member of the Eagles, St. Anthony Club and VFW. Tony was proud of his service to his country; loved horses and watching the crops grow. He was a good steward of the land and was fond of the time that he spent with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Frances, children, Gary (Margie) Jaeger of Bismarck, ND; Mary Kay (Jan Erik) of The Woodlands, TX; Guy Jaeger of Dickinson and Glen Jaeger of Rockville, MD; one granddaughter Heather Jaeger of Bismarck; one brother Carl (Patsy) Jaeger of Billings, MT and two sisters Agnes (Douglas) Middleton of San Antonio, TX and Madge Van Oosting of Garrison, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, sisters, Rosalia, Katherine, and Eva.
