Memorial Service for Anton “Geno” Lupo, 81, of Dickinson, will be 11:00 a. m. , Monday, December 30, 2013 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson with Bernie Krebs officiating. Burial will take place in the Dickinson Cemetery.
Visitation for Geno will be 2:00 p. m. – 4:00 p. m. , Sunday, December 29th at Stevenson Funeral Home.
Geno passed away Friday, December 20, 2013 at St. Benedicts Health Center in Dickinson, ND.
Anton Louis Lupo was born October 8, 1932 in Dickinson, the son of Louis and Louise (Sarjano) Lupo. He grew up attending school at St. Joseph’s Elementary School, later graduating from Dickinson Central High in 1950. Geno then went to Dickinson State Teachers College for two years. In 1953, he entered the U. S. Army at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, serving during the Korean conflict. After an honorable discharge, he returned to Dickinson. Geno married Karen Larsen on July 7, 1953. The couple made their home in Dickinson, where they raised their four children. Geno began his retail career at Dickinson Shoe Store and eventually joined the ownership of the Fad, which he operated until his retirement. Geno was a proud lifetime member of the Dickinson Elks Lodge 1137, where he served as a Past Exalted Ruler. He was also a founding member of the Sodbuster Band. Geno was active in the community, serving on the American Legion Baseball Board and Downtown Merchants. He enjoyed keeping busy with his dance band and Geno Lupo Trio. He was a natural born musician who could play any instrument he came across without even reading a note. Geno especially loved Dixieland and Jazz music. He had a special bond with his friends in the Southside Gang. In his later years, he enjoyed fishing and woodworking.
Geno is survived by his wife of 60 years, Karen; sons, David (Barbara) and Joel (Josann) of Dickinson; daughter, Marla (March) Stevens of Glenburn; 10 grandchildren, Clarke (Lora) Stevens, Mitchell (Natasha) Stevens, Tyler Stevens, Kimberly (Derik) Ferguson, Christopher Lupo, Michael Lupo, McCoy Lupo, Allaina Lupo, Lucas Lupo, Nicholas Lupo; 9 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary (Eddie) Kostelecky and Lucille (Arlen) Zalesky of Dickinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Louise; daughter, Kimberly Ann; and brother, Joseph Lupo.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Alzheimer’s Association or Stark County Veterans Memorial.
