Ardella Synnes, 66, rural Dunn Center, died Saturday, October 19, 2002, at her home, after battling cancer for several years.
Ardella Barthel was born on April 13, 1936 in Hazen, ND to Julius and Emilia (Sailer) Barthel. She grew up and attended school in Hazen, then attended Dickinson State University where she majored in teaching. Ardella taught at several local schools. It was then that she met Marvin. They married on November 25, 1955. They made their home on the Synnes Ranch and raised their three children. Ardella loved the family farm and ranch life and went to great measures to be involved with all aspects of farming and ranching. She spent a great deal of time helping with all outside chores, raising her healthy gardens as well as maintaining her inside household duties. She enjoyed taking many photographs of her grandchildren, farm activities and vacations. She splendidly documented her photographs in her own special way. She also enjoyed growing flowers, sewing and spending time in her kitchen. Ardella was a member of Ladies Aid at Vang Lutheran Church.
Ardella is survived by: her husband, Marvin, Halliday; one daughter, Cheryl (Terry) Bakken, Killdeer; two sons, Gregg (Brenda), Killdeer and Mark (Julie),South Heart; eight grandchildren, Jaime (Mike) Gietzen, Shelby Bakken, Lacia, Ashton, Jaxon, Chandler, Brady and Wyatt Synnes; one great-granddaughter, Sirena Gietzen; three step grandchildren, Jerry, Jenny and Jessica Bakken; one sister, Margaret (Vincent) Oestreich, Hazen; four brothers, Bob (Hope) Barthel, Bill (Bev) Barthel, James Barthel and Dan Barthel all of California; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Julius and Emilia Barthel, one brother and her father and mother-in-law, Martin and Hilda Synnes.
