Arnold began the greatest adventure of his life on August 28, 2019.

Arnold Charles Gilbert Jr. was born July 14, 1953 to Arnold and Iris (Fohl) Gilbert in Mandan, ND. He grew up and attended school in Mandan later finishing his schooling in Center, ND. Arnold enlisted into the US Army and served during the Vietnam War. During his service he worked with heavy equipment and transportation. He was honorably discharged from service  and returned to Center. Arnold married Mary Tressa Moon in Annapolis, MD. To this union two children were born: Christine Tressa and Samuel Charles. Arnold attended truck driving school at Bismarck Junior College. Arnold started his career in construction, joining The Operators, Plasterers and Cement Masons Union. He worked on the power plants near Center, ND and surrounding areas, the Mall of America and also had the privilege of working on Prince’s studio in Minneapolis, MN.

Arnold took his family to Oahu, Hawaii in 1989. Arnold was the General Foreman restoring a Historical Monument, the Aloha Tower, in Honolulu Harbor. Arnold also helped build several skyscrapers on Oahu, including One Water Front Towers, Landmark Waikiki and Park Place. Arnold’s work then took him and his family to New Mexico and later to Washington State. In 2010 Arnold returned to Dickinson to be with his family and made it his home.

Arnold loved spending time with his family. He especially loved traveling to his grandson Logan’s wrestling tournaments and getting all fired up and cheering him on. He was also very proud of his granddaughter Tressa, and the good mother she is. Arnold was blessed with 3 great-grandchildren, Skyler, Dina and Aspen. Arnold enjoyed road trips and fishing. He also enjoyed reading and drawing. You could find  sketches Arnold left behind everywhere he went. He also had a great memory and was often referred to as “The Wise One” by those who knew him best! He was well known for his dry humor and telling jokes. He was also a great story teller and those stories will be forever missed.

Arnold was the most honest, hard working, strong and loyal man you ever knew. His love for his family was too big for his enormous heart. He was already missed before he was gone.

Now you can rest our dearest Father. This message we send from your son and your daughter. We will miss you forever, as this never shall change. The only thing feared is the loneliness and pain. Forever our memories live on in our minds, as we know and remember you Dad, you are one of a kind. Off to the heavens, you are free now to go. Just remember this Dad, you are the best man we know. As your adventure begins, the load is now off your chest. As your journey continues Dad, say hello to the rest.

Arnold is survived by the love of his life, Mary Gilbert of Gladstone; daughter, Christy Greenwood of Dickinson; son, Samuel Gilbert of Dickinson; grandchildren, Logan and Tressa (Kyle); great-grandchildren, Skyler, Dina and Aspen; brothers, Jim (Diana) Gilbert of Zap, ND, Paul (Terri) Gilbert of Moorcroft, WY, Bruce (Danna) Gilbert of Diamond Springs, CA, and Phillip (Bernice) Gilbert of Cromwell, CT; sisters, Rita (Dale) McKnight of Center, ND, and Carrie (Dean) Pfeifer of Stanton, ND; sister-in-law, Nita Gilbert of Madera, CA; sister-in-law Gloria Gilbert of Center, ND; brother-in-law, Harold Vavra of Stanton, ND, and numerous nieces and nephews.
