Funeral Mass for Arthur Kostelecky 76, Dickinson will be 10:00 a. m. Monday, November 22, 2010 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with Father Shannon Lucht and Father Jeff Zwack Concelebrating. Burial will follow at St. Mary?s Catholic Cemetery, South Heart. Visitation for Art will be from 12:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. Sunday, November 21, 2010 at Stevenson Funeral Home with a Rosary and Vigil at 7:00 p. m. Arthur passed away on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck with his family at his side after a courageous battle with cancer, heart and lung disease. Arthur Melchoir Kostelecky was born in Dickinson on January 26, 1934 to Isadore and Agnes (Kostelecky) Kostelecky. At an early age, Art began working on the farm and continued to do so until after he graduated from South Heart High school in 1952. In 1954, Arthur enlisted in the United States Army. After being Honorably Discharged, he returned to the farm. Art married the love of his life, Gladys Ficek on January 2, 1957 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dickinson. The couple made their home on the family farm where they raised their five children. Art?s passion was farming. He never complained and felt blessed to live there his entire life. Art received several awards for his farm practices from the Western Soil Conservation District and also received the NDSU State Ag Award. He was an accomplished accordion player in dance bands and various music groups. Art served as an officer on various bowling leagues and the Board of Directors for the Dickinson Bowling Association. He was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame in 1984. Art was a South Heart School Board Member, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, and Past Grand Knight for South Heart Council 9043, a 4-H Leader, a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Dickinson Farmers Union Advisory Committee. He was very proud to be a member of South Heart?s first basketball team that made it to the state tournament. Art will be remembered for his loyal, honest and hardworking demeanor that served as an example for his family to follow. Art is survived by his wife Gladys, Dickinson; three sons, Daryl (Sheila) Kostelecky, Dickinson, Glen (Brenda) Kostelecky, Dickinson and Bryan (Kayla) Kostelecky, Bismarck; two daughters, Karen (Dave Cerise) Ehresman, Prior Lake, MN and Cheryl (Al) Roshau Dickinson; 10 grandchildren, Mitchell and Zachary Ehresman, Tyler Schwindt, Matthew and Meghan Kostelecky, Sage and Reid Roshau, Kyle, Lance and Sarah Kostelecky; 5 step-grandchildren, Travis and Tyler Bartholomew, Alex and Kayla Kolar and Brenna Jessen; his mother-in-law, Tillie Ficek; two sisters-in-law, Debbie Kostelecky, South Heart and Karen Kostelecky, South Heart and four aunts, Dorothy Kostelecky, Dickinson, Christine Jirges, Dickinson, Helen Kostelecky, Dickinson and Frances Dvorak, Dickinson. He was preceded in death by his parents and only siblings, Larry Kostelecky in 2009 and Ben Kostelecky in 2007. Family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society~Heart & Lung Research.
