Arthur Olson

Funeral services for Arthur H. Olson Jr. , 86, of Dickinson, ND will be 2 p. m. Monday, June 8, 2009 at Calvary Chapel, Dickinson, ND with Pastor Ron Hodson officiating. Burial will follow at Dickinson Cemetery. Visitation for Art will take place from 11:00 a. m. to 9:00 p. m. Sunday, June 7, 2009 at Stevenson Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p. m. Visitation will continue on Monday from 8 a. m. to 12 p. m. at Stevenson Funeral Home and continuing at the church from 1 p. m. to 2 p. m. Art passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2009 at the Richardton Health Center in Richardton. Arthur Olson was born January 15, 1923 in Glover, ND to Arthur Olson Sr. and Alice (Mattson) Olson. He grew up on the family farm and helped at the Creamery. During this time he attended grade school in Glover, ND. After his schooling, Art enlisted in the US Army where he served in the 61st Airborne Paratroopers Division during World War II. Art was honorably discharged from the service and he returned to the Lisbon area. There he met and married Bertha A. Ptacek on June 13, 1948 in Glover, ND. The couple settled in their first home in Milnor for several years before moving to the Straubville/Cogswell area where they farmed. The couple eventually moved to Scranton, ND, where they lived for over 30 years. During this time, Art worked for The Milwaukee/ Burlington Northern Railroad. He retired from the railroad in 1985 and eventually Art and Bertha moved to Dickinson. After Bertha passed away in 2007, Art felt very fortunate to have caring friends at Evergeen to spend time with. He enjoyed music and was a very accomplished harmonica player. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Art enjoyed the land, horses and cattle. The joy of his life was his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Art is survived by his children; Kathy (Terry) Hildestad, Bismarck, ND, Margi (Ray) Dukart, Dickinson, ND and Daryl (Dianne) Olson, Lakeville, MN; 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bertha; son-in-law, Jerald Brown; brother, Calvin Olson; sisters, Louise Bratland and Martha Olson.
