Arthur Straub

Art passed away on Monday, August 16, 2004 at Fallon Medical Complex, Baker. Art was born September 8, 1922, north of Plevna to Fred and Magdalena (Krueg) Straub on the Charlie Clark place presently owned by Dan Thielen. In 1924 he moved with his folks 14 miles northwest of Plevna where his brother Reiny still lives. Art first purchased land and remodeled a house which he sold to Vernard Schell. In 1957 he built a new home a mile east of where he grew up and lived there until his time of death. Art attended grade school at Dry Fork and then went to Plevna High School where he graduated in 1940. He farmed and ranched in partnership with his brothers Reiny and Herbie until 1990 when Art retired and leased his portion to his nephew, Dave Straub. He continued to help on the farm whenever needed. On May 16, 1964 Art was united in marriage to Alice Rose Logar in Miles City and on December 7, 1965 a daughter Alice Elaine was born. Art enjoyed his family, church, farming and ranching. It was always a challenge for Art to fix machinery or anything else that was broken. He enjoyed working with wood, he built two news homes and remodeled several in the community. Art also found it an enjoyment to build furniture for his wife and daughter. He was a member all his life of the German Congregational Church which later changed to the Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church. Art accepted the Lord as his personal Savior on December 2, 1949. Art enjoyed helping with the maintance work at the church, was trustee for several years and treasurer for 26 years. He was also a member of Farm Bureau, National Stockgrowers, Montana Stockgrowers and Montana Alfalfa Seed Growers. He served on the A. S. C. S. Committee for two years and worked with the FHA for three years. Survivors include his wife Alice Rose, his daughter, Alice Elaine and her husband Dave Parker of Washington D. C. ; two brothers, Reiny Straub and his wife Violet of Plevna, Herbie Straub and his wife Freida Straub of Baker; a former sister-in-law Viola Straub Schuetzle wife of Art Schuetzle of Plevna and numerous nieces and nephews. Art was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters Emma Wenz, Roselia Herning and Louise Scheuffele; two brothers Richard and Rudy Straub. A memorial has been established at the Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church
