A funeral service for Arvid Mittelstadt, 76, of Dickinson will be 9:00 a.m., Monday, June 19, 2017 at St. John Lutheran Church, Dickinson with Pastor Lisa Lewton officiating. Military Rites will be presented by the American Legion Post #3 Honor Guard. Burial will take place at 3:00 p.m., CDT, Monday at the ND Veterans Cemetery in Mandan.
Visitation for Arvid will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, June 18 at Stevenson Funeral Home with a prayer service taking place at 4:00 p.m.
Arvid passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at his home.
Arvid was born September 26, 1940 at the family farm house, Dunn Center, ND, the son of Arthur and Irene (Schaper) Mittelstadt. He was baptized on October 9, 1940 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Killdeer, ND. Arvid was confirmed in June 1954 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Halliday, ND. He was raised on a farm north of Halliday and was educated and graduated from Halliday in 1958.
Arvid enlisted in the United States Army in 1959, served in Korea, and received an honorable discharge in 1962.
On June 20, 1964, he married his loving wife, Cindy (Saeman) Mittelstadt, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Halliday, by Pastor Harry S. Theiss.
Together they lived in Owatonna, MN where Arvid worked at the Owatonna Canning Company for eight years. In 1975, they moved to Dickinson where they co-owned Roughrider Mobile Homes. Arvid served two terms as president of the ND Mobile Home Association, served on the ND Housing Association Finance Agency, and retired from the mobile home business in 1996.
Arvid was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He enjoyed camping, playing cards, having coffee with his coffee bunch, and visiting.
Arvid is survived by two sons, Wayne (Rachel), Parker CO, and Glenn, Dickinson; three grandchildren, Katie, Megan, and Brody, Parker CO; five sisters and brothers, Connie(Frank) Barnick, Steele, ND, Dale (Karen) Mittelstadt, Aurora, CO, Marilyn Smith, Christiana, TN, Kathy (Jonas) Schumacher, Dickinson, ND, Aaron (Deb) Mittelstadt, Coeur d’Alene, ID; two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marilyn (Duane) Kessler, Baldwin, ND, Jane (Wes) Gunsch, Beulah, ND, numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cindy (2015); his parents; in-laws, Jacob and Wilhelmina (Schulz) Saeman; one niece, Rhonda Gunsch; three brothers-in-law, Leroy Reinhardt, Donald Kastner, and Earl Smith; four sisters, Bonnie, Evonne, Colleen and Sharon Mittelstadt.
