Austin passed away Friday, June 2, 2017 due to injuries sustained in a traffic fatality near Dickinson.

Austin Patrick Reiter was born March 14, 1996 in Bismarck, ND, the son of Brian and Lisa (Huber) Reiter. Growing up, he attended St. Patrick’s Grade School and graduated from Trinity Catholic High School in 2015. Austin enjoyed his position as equipment manager for the Trinity Titan football team. He was honored to receive a football helmet from the team and coaches at the year-end awards banquet as recognition for his hard work and dedication. He was also proud to have operated the lights for multiple drama and play performances throughout high school, and proud of his time in the Assistant Chaplain Program.

Austin was continuing his education at the University of Mary in Bismarck, studying Criminal Justice, and was so excited to graduate in December. He had a lifelong passion to become a police officer, and a deep desire to help people and make a difference. While at the University of Mary, he worked for Campus Security as part of an internship program.

Austin loved more than anything spending time and hanging out with his brother and best friend, Lance.  He was active in his church, serving for nine years as an altar server at Queen of Peace, which was very important to him. He enjoyed WWII history and loved to visit with anyone about the war, and learn more about history. His favorite hobbies included fishing, hunting, skiing, and teaching himself how to play guitar.  His favorite time was hanging out with friends, camping and having bonfires. Austin loved the Green Bay Packers, New York Yankees, and especially the New York Rangers. Austin made a deep impact on everybody he met and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Austin is survived by his parents, Brian and Lisa of Dickinson; brother Lance, who is attending NDSU; grandfather, Bill Reiter; uncles, Tim (Melinda) Reiter of Chanhassen, MN (cousins Anna, Bridget, and Audrey), Jeff (Valerie) Reiter of Savage, MN (cousins Caleb, Jocelyn, and Tessa), Brad (fiancé, Myra) Reiter of San Francisco, CA, Tom (Theresa) Huber of Glendive, MT (cousins Donald and Cody), Jared Huber of Dickinson; aunts, Sara Streifel of Bismarck (cousins Luke and Jenna), and Carey (J.R.) Chapman of Billings, MT (cousins Keenan, Connor, and Collin).

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Janet Reiter, and Don and Darleen Huber.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, a scholarship in Austin’s name in the Criminal Justice Program at the University of Mary will be established, helping someone to live Austin’s dream of becoming a police officer:
