Austine Steen was born a daughter to Austin and Christine (Enervold) Jesfield on July 5, 1911 in rural Cash Township, Perkins County, South Dakota. As a young child, Austine moved with her family to the Ollie Community in northeastern Fallon County, at the badlands ranch where Pete and Anna Mae Wang now live. Austine attended Ollie schools, graduating from the Ollie High School at the top of her class. While living in the Ollie community, Austine met Henning Steen, and the two were married on November 13, 1929, in Baker, MT. To this union Donald and Gloria were born. Austine and Henning made their home on the Steen Farm south of Ollie. Austine enjoyed being a farmer?s wife. In 1960, Henning and Austine sold their farm to Francis Madler and moved into Baker where they made their home. After moving to Baker, Austine worked in the Fallon County Courthouse; four years in the Assessor?s Office and seven years in the County Treasure?s Office. Eventually Austine went to work for her sister at T & M Electric. After her retirement, Austine spent the winters in California with her daughter, Gloria and her family. Austine enjoyed quilting, and made quilts for each of her children and grandchildren. Austine was very devoted to her Lord. While living in the Ollie Community, she attended the Ollie Evangelical United Brethren Church, where she also taught Sunday school. After moving to Baker, Austine attended Lakeview Southern Baptist Church, and later she attended the Baker Assembly of God Church. Austine studied her Bible throughout her life, and looked forward to the time when she would rejoin Henning. Austine is survived by her daughter, Gloria (Roy) Pauly, LaCrescenta, CA; five grandchildren, Brett (Trinh) Pauly, Brock (Lisa) Pauly, both of California, Craig (Slyvia) Steen, Debbie (Bob) Wadsworth and Sherry (Rob) DeCampo, all of Australia; 11 great-grandchildren, Matt, DeeAnn, Lisa, Kim, Joanne, Sharon, Jack, Christa, Caitlin, Justin and Heather; and numerous nieces and nephews.
