Funeral Services for Avis Stieg, 71, of Ekalaka, MT are 10:00 a. m. , Saturday, December 17, 2005 at Carter County Gymnasium in Ekalaka with Tom Stieg officiating. Burial will follow at Beaver Lodge Cemetery in Ekalaka. Visitation is 1:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m. Friday, December 16, 2005 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker. Visitation will continue on Saturday one hour prior to the service at Carter County High School Gymnasium. Avis passed away Monday, December 12, 2005 at Holy Rosary Health Care in Miles City, MT. Avis Stieg was born June 7, 1934, the youngest of two children, to Daniel and Florence (Oberlin) Brady at Ekalaka, MT. She grew up and attended school in Ekalaka, graduating from Carter County High School in 1952. Avis then attended Nurse?s Training School in Aberdeen, SD. On July 7, 1953 she married Alfred Stieg in Miles City, MT. Together, they ranched for a year near Ekalaka before moving to Tacoma, WA where they spent the next sixteen years. While in Washington, Avis drove bus for Bethel High School. The couple then returned to Ekalaka with their three sons in 1971 and purchased the AMOCO Bulk Plant and started A & A Stieg Wholesales. They owned and operated this family business for the next twenty-eight years until their son, Doug took over. Avis and Al spent the last fifteen winters in the Arizona desert. Avis truly loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed attending ball games, animals and birds, crafts, and supporting her family at the local ?Bump ?N Run? races. She is survived by her husband Al; three sons: Daniel Stieg, Billings, MT, Darrald (Lois) Stieg, Gillette, WY, Douglas (Sandra) Stieg, Ekalaka, MT; one sister: Minnie Jean (John) McCumsey, Shelton, WA; five grandchildren: Amanda, Michael, Ashley, Jennifer and Justin Stieg; and six great-grandchildren. Avis is preceded by in death by her parents.
