Barbara passed away Saturday, December 15, 2018 at St. Luke’s Home in Dickinson with family by her side.
Barbara Huschka was born January 31, 1924 in Sheffield, ND, the daughter of Louis and Anna (Schmidt) Huschka. She grew up south of Belfield and attended country school near her home. As part of her nursing training, young Barbara was called upon by the country doctor to assist with home deliveries. She would care for the newborns and mothers for a period of time before returning home. Barbara earned her nursing certificate at the age of 21.
On January 8, 1945, Barbara married her soul mate, Wilfred “Bill” Dorval at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Belfield. With the exception of 1 ½ years that they lived in Worland, Wyoming the family made their home in Belfield.
Barbara was a very creative and nurturing person who loved gardening as well as embroidering and sewing blankets. She could often be found in her kitchen baking and cooking for her family and friends; all were welcome and no one left her house hungry. She made friends wherever she went but also had a mischievous side. When asked how she knew something, she would reply “a little birdie told me.” She loved taking care of any and all babies, including animals. Her faith in God was very important to her. Barbara and Bill prayed the Rosary every night before bed. Grandchildren who spent the night were required to kneel down and pray as well. Barbara had a great love for her family; always showering her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren with love.
Barbara is survived by her children, Anna Marie (Bo) McDaniel, Mary Ann (Richard) Kessel, and Louis (Georgette) Dorval; 17 grandchildren; many loving great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and 7 sisters, MaryAnn Metzger, Catherine Roller, Rose Wanner, Eva (Bob) Hlibichuk, Dorothy Fluhrer, Agnes Smith, and Susanna Reis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilfred; 3 great-grandchildren; brothers, Aloyuis, Martin, Mathias, and Peter; and sisters, Angeline Nieskens, Balbina Roller, and Anna Huschka.Dorval Barbara
