Funeral Mass for Ben Susa, 82, of Baker, MT will be 11:00 a. m. Friday, October 12, 2007 at St. John?s Catholic Church with Father Thomas Tobin celebrating. Burial will follow at St. John?s Catholic Cemetery. Military rights will be presented by Baker American Legion, Fallon Post #35. Visitation will be from 9:00 a. m. to 9:00 p. m. on Thursday, October 11, 2007 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker, with a Rosary and Vigil Service taking place at 7:00 p. m. Ben passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2007 at Holy Rosary Hospital and Health Care in Miles City, MT. Benedict L. Susa was born May 19, 1925 to Frank M. and Gertrude (Rising) Susa, on the family farm near Golva, ND. Ben grew up and attended local country grade school and then high school at Golva High. He spent the next several years working for area farmers near Golva. In 1950 he enlisted in the United States Army where he served for several years. After an honorable discharge he returned home to Golva. Several years later he moved to Baker, MT where he began working for Ed Susa, operating heavy equipment. Ben worked on many excavation projects throughout the Fallon County area, building roads dams and dikes. On September 1, 1972 Ben married Marlys Kirkup at St. John?s Catholic Church. The couple made their home in Baker and have lived their ever since. Ben continued to operate heavy equipment with Hufford Construction until he reluctantly retired at the age of 80. Fishing was a favorite past time of Ben?s, both locally and even an occasional trip to Canada. He was very skilled at making wood cutouts, as was visible by his many lawn ornaments. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW, and American Legions, Fallon Post # 35Ben enjoyed life to the fullest. He was happy-go-lucky with a great sense of humor. Ben dearly loved spending time with his family and friends. He always made sure that each niece and nephew knew that they were his ?favorite. ?He is survived by his wife Marlys of Baker; brother, Rudolph (Nelda) Susa of Longmont, CO; six sisters, Catherine Barthel of Yakima, WA; Dorothy (Kirk) Green of Sheridan, WY; Clara Michels of Beach, ND; Frances (Paul) Zachmann of Baker, MT; Marie (Don) Nistler of Golva, ND; Theresa Sartz of Greeley, CO; two sisters-in-law, Gertrude Susa of Bowman, ND; Elizabeth Susa of Baker, MT; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by both of his parents; three brothers, Martin, John, and Edward J. Susa.
