Ben passed away Thursday, April 30, 2015 at his home near Dickinson. Ben was born August 18, 1931, in Dickinson, the son of Jack and Fannie (Schutzman) Wolbaum. He attended school close to the family farm, which is 12 miles southwest of Dickinson. Ben married Margaret Miller on October 29, 1956 at St. Philip’s Catholic Church in Hirschville, ND. Ben was a farmer his entire life. In the springtime, he loved the smell of fresh black soil being turned over to seed the new season’s crop and he patiently waited for a bountiful crop in the fall. He was hard working and always stayed busy keeping everything going on the farm. Throughout the years, he had a natural ability and a passion for playing the guitar, harmonica, banjo, accordion, piano and the concertina, which he learned to play by ear. When he was able to be pulled away from his chores on the farm, his family enjoyed watching and listening to him play these instruments. We will miss hearing his beautiful tunes. He is survived by two daughters, Sharon Kary, Chandler, AZ and Michelle Roth, Wasilla, AK; four sons; Carter (Julie), Snohomish, WA, Layton and Scott (Holly) all of Dickinson, Curt (Kristi) of Rugby, ND; 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Ben was preceded in death by his parents, (Jack and Fannie Wolbaum); wife, Margaret (2001); and an infant daughter.
