Benjamin Kitzan, 97, of Mandan and formerly of Hebron, died Friday, August 15, 2008 at the Mandan Care Center. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Central Time, Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Hebron. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, from 3 ? 8:30 at the Spangelo Funeral Home in Hebron. Burial will be in the First Baptist Cemetery in Hebron. Benjamin was born December 24, 1910 in Hebron the son of Jacob and Katherine (Losing) Kitzan. He was raised and educated in the Antelope, ND area. He began farming and ranching during the Dust Bowl years of the 30?s and survived. He married Adela Krein, October 20, 1936 at Hebron. They farmed and ranched north of Hebron where they raised their son Harvey. Benjamin semi retired from the farm in 1969 and completely retired in 1980. They moved to Mandan where he worked for Mandan Supply for a year and a half. Benjamin was a staunch Republican. He enjoyed being a cowboy and the farm and ranch life. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, and Sunday afternoons playing his guitar in the living room. As well as the many games of checkers with his brother Art Kitzan. He is survived by his wife of 74 years Adela, Mandan, ND; two children of their deceased son Harvey, Brent (Char) Kitzan, Mandan, and Kandace McLaughlin, Mandan; one step-grandson: Kevin (Deb) Selby, three brothers: Clarence Kitzan, Bowman, ND, Art Kitzan, Bismarck, ND, Reuben Kitzan, Missoula, MT and two sisters: Edna Mischel, Bismarck, ND and Alma Sailer, Bismarck. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Harvey, four brothers: Gustav, Reiny, Bill and Walter, and two sisters: Leona Metzger, and Adeline Heinle.
