A Funeral Mass for Ben Volesky, 81, of Dickinson, will be 10:00 a. m. , Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Dickinson with Father Shannon Lucht celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery. Visitation for Ben will be 3:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. , Monday, December 22, 2014, at Stevenson Funeral Home with a Rosary and Vigil service being held at 7:00 p. m. Ben passed away December 19, 2014 at CHI St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck, ND. Benjamin F. Volesky was born on October 24, 1933, the son of Anton and Rosie (Sadowsky) Volesky. He grew up on the family farm in Billings County, one of nine children. Ben attended school in New Hradec and later continued to work on the family farm. On June 14, 1954, he married Evelyn Kudrna at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Hradec. The couple was blessed with five children. They lived in Moses Lake, WA before moving back to the farm in Billings County. In 1972 they bought their farm near New Hradec and have made their home there ever since. Ben loved farming and took great pride in his family, farm and John Deere tractors. He enjoyed playing cards, watching wrestling, listening to old time music and dancing. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and teasing his grandchildren. Ben kept his Czech heritage present with his morning and evening prayers. Ben was very active in the Catholic Church, serving as an usher at Queen of Peace for over 20 years, leading rosary before Mass, and was in charge of Queen of Peace God’s Share for 5 years. He was involved in the Parish Council, serving as president for 2 years. Knights of Columbus was important to Ben as he was a charter member of Council 9950, serving as Grand Knight in 1979 -1980 and Knights of Columbus Catholic Family of the Year. He was a 4th Degree Knight and served as Faithful Navigator in 1976. He was a past member of the Elks and honorary life member of the El Zagel Temple since 1984. Ben was also recognized for service on the Stark Soil Conservation District Supervisor for 15 years, Farmstead Award, Outstanding Farm Award, and FMHA Farm Family of the Year. Ben is survived by wife, Evelyn; daughters, Rosalyn (Brian) McDermott of Doniphan, NE, Judy (Ken) Berg of Lincoln, ND, and Denys (Doug) Schwartz of Bismarck, ND; son, Todd (Bridget) Volesky of Hillsboro, ND; daughter-in-law, Barb Volesky of Fergus Falls, MN; grandchildren, Ben, Brandon, Katie, Kallie, Corey, Shana, Kodi, Kelsey, Jared, Danni, Isaac, Calvin, Kaylyn, Chevy, Chassey, and Rodney; great-grandchildren, Kellen, Lyla, Mason, Kaylee, and Maverick; sisters, Elsie Steffan of Graceville, MN, Frances Marsh of Dickinson, ND, Betty Kudrna of Stanley, ND, and RoseMarie Kovash of Dickinson, ND; brothers, Robert (Tillie) Volesky of Dickinson ND, and Florian (Gladys) Volesky of Dickinson, ND. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Cal Volesky; grandson, Cameron Volesky; brother, Ray Volesky; and sister Mary Karsky.
