Bernard Kennedy, 84, Dickinson, ND, died Monday, October 21, 2002, at St. Joseph?s Hospital and Health Center, Dickinson. Bernard Kennedy was born at home in Sentinel Butte, ND on May 17, 1918 to Edward and Jeannette (Simard) Kennedy. He graduated from Sentinel Butte in 1937 and Capital Commercial College of Bismarck in 1938. He assisted his father in the Drug Wholesale business in Sentinel Butte until 1939 when he moved to Seattle to work for Safeway Grocery and later Boeing Aircraft. He was drafted into the Army at Fort Lewis, Washington in 1942 and assigned to the Medical Corps, receiving his pharmaceutical training at Fitzsimmons General Hospital in Denver, CO. His hospital unit spent time in England during the Normandy Invasion and D-Day. He returned home on the Queen Elizabeth to work for his father and planned to return to Seattle; however, his plans changed when he met and married Roberta Roberts in Medora, ND on December 30, 1948. He became the owner of the E. R. Kennedy Wholesale Co. in 1960 after his father died. He moved the family enterprise to Dickinson in 1963 and continued operating until 1990. He was a 50 year member of the Elks and American Legion, was a member of the German Hungarian Club, St. Anthony Club, R. S. V. P. , VFW member and bus driver. He was a charter member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, drives in the country with his wife and the many friendships he formed during his years in business and during his life. Bernard is survived by his wife, Roberta ?Bobbie?; four children, Roberta ?Bobbie? and John Cary, Claremore, Okla. , Coleen and Larry Roller, Moorhead, Minn. , James and Betty (Schroeder), Jamestown, ND, Thomas and Melisa (Schacher), Aurora, Illi. ; one brother, Edward and Margaret, Midland, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Jane Everett and Bea Roberts; nine grandchildren, Patrick and Liz Cary, Chris, Andy, Ben and Willie Roller, Carissa (Kennedy) Bertsch and Jason Kennedy, Katie Kennedy and several nieces and nephews. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials are preferred to Queen of Peace Catholic Church, American Heart Association or Trinity High School.
