Bernice was born in McIntosh, SD on April 11, 1924 a twin daughter to Barney and Anna Baumeister. She lived on the family farm for many years while attending a rural country school. Bernice married John Heyen in 1946, and to this union five children were born. Bernice and John moved around and settled in Baker, MT in 1960, where they raised their family. Bernice worked for Smitty?s Bake Shop as a baker. In the ten years or so working for Smitty?s, Bernice made many delicious Carmel rolls, doughnuts and pies for the community and Lutheran Fair Stand. Bernice met Warren Gaulke in 1973, and the two were married on December 30, 1978. Bernice and Warren started the Hobby Shop Caf?, where she continued to bake and cook until they sold out in 1981. Bernice then took a job cleaning the bowling alley and Donetta?s Beauty Den. Bernice also did babysitting as well as mending and doing clothes alterations for various people. In 1997, Bernice and Warren purchased Hunters? Table and Tavern, which they latter sold to their daughter, Donna. In January of 2006, Bernice moved to Rhame, ND to live with her daughters where she continued to live until her death. Bernice will always be remembered for her delicious Carmel rolls, pies and other baked goods. She was always doing a craft of some kind and selling them to various people she would meet. She loved to listen to music, dance, go hunting and fishing and make things for her family and especially cherished her time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bernice was finally able to have a pet whom she named Patches, because he was found as a kitten in the oil patch, hence his name Patches. Patches was her pride and joy and the one never went to bed without the other. Bernice will never be forgotten, and her smile, good humor and quick wit will live on in the hearts of everyone. Bernice is survived by her children, Joyce (George) Pittman, Boulder City, NV; Roger (Lora) Heyen, Baker, MT; Marvin (Peggy) Heyen, Glendive, MT; Donna Graham, Rhame, ND and Rhonda (fianc?e Scott Luvass) Miller, Rhame, ND; 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
