Bertha Agnes was born February 13, 1936 in Dickinson, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Jirges) Pachl. As a young girl, she grew up on a farm southwest of Dickinson. Bertha married the love of her life, John V. Kuntz on June 11, 1957 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Dickinson. Bertha and John were married 61 years. They had no children of their own but were aunt and uncle to many who they loved like their own. In 1962, Bertha and John moved to South Heart, where they lived together until 2018. After his passing, she moved to Mapleview in Bismarck where it became her final home. Bertha was a cook for South Heart School for many years. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in South Heart. She served in her parish by singing in the church choir for many years, was a member of the Alter Society, and Catholic Daughters. She was very active in the K of C Garden, planting acres of potatoes and crops. Bertha was also a member of South Heart’s Sr. Citizen Center where she helped manage the center’s bookings and was a member of the German Hungarian, Eagles Club and Dickinson Elks Lodge #1137. Bertha and John enjoyed dancing, especially square dancing, playing bingo, playing cards, going on drives and trips together. Time spent with family and friends was always a joy for them.
