Bertha Olson

Funeral services for Bertha Olson, 91 of Dickinson, ND will be Saturday October 13, 2007, 10 a. m. at Calvary Chapel of Dickinson with Pastor Ron Hodson officiating. Burial will follow the service at Dickinson Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, October 12, 2007, 9 a. m. to 9 p. m. at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson with a prayer service at 7 p. m. Bertha passed away Monday, October 8, 2007 at her home with family by her side. Bertha A. Olson was born on June 19, 1916 the daughter of Charles J. and Katie A. (Boyd) Ptacek in Long Prairie, MN. She attended elementary school in MN until she moved with her family to Oakes, ND. Bertha graduated from LaMoure High School in 1935. She then attended Ellendale Normal School, Valley City College and finishing at NDSU where she graduated with a bachelor?s degree in teaching. She then began her career in teaching which she faithfully served in for over 40 years. Bertha married Arthur H. Olson Jr. on June 13, 1948 in Glover, ND. The couple settled in their first home in Milnor, ND. They then lived in various towns in eastern ND before moving to Scranton, ND where they lived for over 30 years. The couple eventually moved to Dickinson, ND where they currently reside. Bertha and Art were blessed with three children. Bertha was a very active member of her community and church, as she volunteered at the Community Cupboard, was a Sunday School Supervisor, Bible Study Leader and also involved at the St. Joseph Hospital. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking and reading. Together, she and Art enjoyed touring around the Black Hills area picking chokecherries and also exploring the Badlands. She especially loved and enjoyed her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her special granddog-?Sheba?Bertha is survived by two daughters: Kathy (Terry) Hildestad, Bismarck, ND and Margi (Ray) Dukart, Bismarck, ND; a son: Daryl (Dianne) Olson, Lakeville, MN; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two sisters: Bernice Ptacek, Lisbon, ND; Bev(Fred) Maack, Lisbon, ND; two brothers: Lynn (Margaret) Ptacek, Valley City, ND and Lloyd(LaVerne) Ptacek, Cogswell, ND. She was preceded in death by: her parents, Charles and Katie Ptacek; a brother: Chuck Ptacek and a sister: Sylvia Skjefte; a son-in-law: Jerald Brown
