Funeral Services for 76 year old Bette Howard, of Dickinson, are scheduled for 2:00 pm MDT at Evangelical Bible Church, 2891-5th Avenue West, Dickinson. A graveside committal service will be at 7:00 pm MDT at Dawson Memorial Park, Glendive, MT. Bette passed away Thursday, August 14, at her home in Dickinson. Bette was born on June 6, 1927, the daughter of George and Olga (Ortman) Boese in Glendive, Montana. She grew up and attended school in Richey, where she also graduated from high school. She attended Colorado Women?s College for one year. Bette was married to William A. Howard on November 1, 1946 at Fort Dodge, Iowa. They moved back to Richey where they farmed and raised their family. After William?s death in 1963, Bette moved to Dickinson with her 5 sons, where she attended Dickinson State Teachers College and received her teaching certificate. She taught Jr. High geography for many years in the Dickinson School system, retiring in 1993. Bette was an advocate for women living independently. She volunteered for the Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis center for a number of years. She enjoyed all types of needlework crafts and co-owned and operated the Lady Bug Corner craft store for several years. She enjoyed studying the Bible and taught Sunday School for children and adults, as well as Good News Clubs. Her strong faith in Christ was shared with many, and her concern and support for her children and grandchildren was foremost. Bette also enjoyed singing. She was a member of the St. Cecelia Music Club and Sweet Cecelias quartet. Survivors include, five sons: Dennis (Ruth) Howard, Bismarck, Nathan (Joliene) Howard, Glendive, Joel (Betsy) Howard, Meridian, ID, Philip Howard, Bozeman, MT, and Jon Howard (Cecile Marie), Long Valley, NJ; seven grandchildren, Wade (Kerri) Howard, Derric, Ian, Mitzi, Abbey, Billie, and Gabriel Howard; three great-grandchildren, Isaac, Levi, and Luke Howard; a sister in law Rose (Pat) Patterson, Glendive, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother, Richard. Memorials may be directed to the charity of one?s choice.
