Betty passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018 at her home in Dickinson surrounded by her loving family.

Betty Jane was born July 17, 1949, the daughter of Theodore (Ted) and Frances Mae (Gunderson) Bertsch at Elizabeth Hospital (now Fallon Medical Complex) Baker, MT. She attended grade school in Baker, MT and graduated from Baker High School in 1967. Betty started her first job when she was a freshman at A&W Tastee Freeze as a carhop and then a cook. Her next job took her to the Frost Bowl Café where she was a cook and waitress. It was at this café that her future husband, Milbert, asked her out on her first date!

Betty married Milbert Allerdings on October 4, 1968 at First Baptist Church in Baker, MT. Their life together began with a move, 12 whole miles away, to the Allerdings Ranch southwest of Baker where they raised their three wonderful daughters, Sheryl Kay, Sheila Ann and Shandra Lee. Farm/ranch work was hard work but rewarding and a special place to raise their family. Betty did return to working in town when their youngest daughter was about five years old and had a few different jobs over the next thirty-one years. During this time their first granddaughter Madison Marie was born. Betty so enjoyed the summer as Madison would come to stay for a week or so each summer to get spoiled. Abbey Mae and Emily Elyse joined later on. Betty retired in 2010 and she and Milbert moved to Dickinson, ND where they would be closer to family and were able to spoil the granddaughters.

Along with working on the ranch and her town job, Betty was a member of Evangelical Free Church, Ladies Aid, Church choir, Bible School, Sunday school, Homemakers, Fallon Community Choir, Plevna Cougars Booster Club and volunteering at Habitat for Humanity. She also sewed almost all of her daughters clothing winning many ribbons at the Fallon County Fair. Betty loved and was so proud of each of her daughters and granddaughters. It was a very trying time when her girls graduated from high school and moved on to college. She missed each one of them so much and was overjoyed each time she saw them, received a phone call or a letter. These things brought her much joy and helped her along until the next time she would see them. Betty’s three granddaughters were a real blessing in her life. They brought back so many memories of when her girls were growing up, and the best part was being able to spoil them!

Betty accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at age 8. She loved the Lord through good or bad and looked to Him for guidance in her life. Betty was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer April 2, 2014. When her doctor told her that he wanted her to understand that it was terminal with no cure, she looked at her family and doctor and said, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” –Philippians 4:13. Betty and her family clung to this verse knowing God is the Great Physician – the One who can perform miracles and that He had a plan for her life. She put her faith and trust in Him and He blessed her with peace. Thank you Jesus!
