Betty Gervais, 80, Dickinson, formerly of Fargo, died Monday, January 26, 2004, at St. Benedict?s Health Center, Dickinson. A prayer service is 7 p. m. Thursday, January 29, 2004, at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson, with the Rev. Steven D. Tangen, officiating. Funeral services are 10 a. m. (CST) Saturday, January 31, 2004, at Peace Lutheran Church, Fargo, with the Rev. Dan Forsberg, officiating. Interment is in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Betty Jane Haugen was born on the family farm on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1923, to Carl and Mabel (Brekke) Haugen in Edmore, ND Betty?s mother passed away when she was only ten years old, so she spent alot of time staying with relatives. Growing up in and around Edmore, ND and Crookston, Minn. She attended Prospect School in Ramsey County, completing the eight grade in June of 1938. She enjoyed watching her brother Butch ?Earl? play basketball, football and boxing. She would practice with him after school. She married Eli Albert Gervais who was born on September 1, 1916, to Wilfred and Emma Vaudrin Gervais at Gentilly, Minn. , on March 20, 1947, in Moorhead, Minn. They made their home in Fargo. Betty worked at the Dutch Maid Grill in Fargo for fifteen years and Bethany Homes in Fargo for two years before retiring in 1985. She enjoyed being active in her church, Peace Lutheran & American Lutheran Church and was a lifetime member of the V. F. W. Auxiliary Post #762 of Fargo. In which she served as Conductress and Chaplain. She also enjoyed restoring old cars with her husband, dancing to old-time music and watching the Minnesota Twins. Suffering from Alzheimer?s since 1993, Betty moved to Dickinson and entered St. Benedict?s Health Center in February 1994. She is survived by: one son, Neal A. Gervais, Fargo; one daughter, Karen (Melvin) Frank, Dickinson; five grandchildren, Angela Moore, Karie Moore, Nevin Moore, Joshua Gervais and Samantha Gervais; three great-grandchildren, Austin, Michael and Justine Moore and many nieces nephews and special friends. She was preceded in death by: her parents, husband, two brothers, Morris and Earl; two sisters, Edith and Ruth.
