A Funeral Mass for Betty Kaip (Skalsky), 96, of Glen Ullin, will be 10:00 a. m. CDT, Friday, October 17, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin with Father Jeff Zwack celebrating. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation for Betty will be 5:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m. CDT, Thursday, October 16th at the church with a rosary and vigil service being held at 6:00 p. m. CDT. Betty passed away Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Marion Manor in Glen Ullin. Elizabeth was born May 24, 1918 in the Haymarsh area, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Geiger) Fure. On November 16, 1937, Betty married Joe Skalsky at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church south of Glen Ullin. They farmed south of Glen Ullin until they moved to town in 1956. Betty was a cook at Brausch Cafe for 2 ½ years before becoming the head cook for the school’s hot lunch program for 24 years. Joe passed away January 7, 1987. Betty became reacquainted with a childhood friend and widower, Steve Kaip from Mandan. Their relationship blossomed and they were married April 23, 1988. They lived in Mandan until 1996 when they moved to Glen Ullin. Steve passed away May 7, 2004. Between the two marriages, Betty had 15 children, 44 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Betty is survived by 10 daughters: Marjorie (Robert) Havelka of Epiphany Assisted Living, Coon Rapids. MN, Carol (Dan) Schmidt of Long Beach, MS, Florence (Rick) Cline of Glen Ullin, Delores (Robert) Kottre of Beulah, Susan (Gerald) Tschider of Bismarck, Sandy (Kaip) Faye of Yakima, WA, Sylvia (Kaip) Jacobs of Lake Stevens, WA, Shirley (Kaip) Skager of Federal Way, WA, Sherry Kaip of Mandan, Shereen Kaip of Federal Way, WA; five sons, Eugene (Martha) Skalsky of Pace FL, Joe (Marge) Skalsky of Albuquerque, NM, Steven Kaip of Parish, FL, Sherwin (Annette) Kaip of Mandan, Sheldon Kaip of Des Moines, WA. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Joe and Steve; sister, Eva Gerving; four sons-in-law, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
