Funeral Mass for Betty Kowis, 92, of Killdeer, ND will be 11:00 a. m. Monday, April 23, 2007 at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church in Killdeer with Father Jerry Ruelle, OSB officiating. Burial will follow at Killdeer Cemetery in Killdeer. Visitation will be Sunday, April 22, 2007 from 12:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m with a vigil service at 4:00 p. m. at Stevenson Funeral Home in Killdeer. Betty passed away, Thursday, April 19, 2007 at Hill Top Home of Comfort in Killdeer. Betty Dietz was born February 28, 1915 on the family farm near Manning the oldest of 15 children to Fred (Bray) Dietz. Betty grew up on the farm and attended local county school until the needs and home required her to stay home and help. It was during this time that she met Martin Kowis and the two were married on September 21, 1936 in Manning, ND. The couple made their home in Killdeer where they raised their six children. Betty stayed very busy raising the family and keeping her home. When most of the children where grown and had left the home, Betty began doing custodial work at the high school. She worked there until she was eighty-two years old. Betty lived at the home for a number of years before moving into Hill Top Home of Comfort in 2001. Betty was a member of St. Joseph?s Catholic Church and attended regularly. She had a wonderful garden and always received many compliments on its produce. Betty also loved to bake, especially pastries and sweets. She was very fond of the time she spent visiting with her coffee friends every morning at the Buckskin. She is survived by: her son, Melvin, (Caroline) Kowis, Broomfield, CO; daughters, Luella Sandvick, Killdeer, Violet (Cooper) Wise, MT, Dora, FL, Edna (Jim) Staudenmaier, Rockwood, TN, Opal (Carl) Knocks, Spanish Lake, MO; one daughter-in-law, Marilyn Kowis, Athelstone, WI; brothers, Dave Dietz, Harvey, ND, August Dietz, Billings, Lester (Eilene) Dietz, Piere, ID; sister, Susie Schollmeyer, Dickinson, ND, Mary Greenwalt, Portland, OR, Sally Dietz, Colorado, Annabell Dietz, Chicago, IL. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Martin Kowis, a son, Donald Kowis, five brothers, Walter, Ed, Fred, George and Paul; and a sister, Molly Batt.
