Betty Sickler, 89, of Bismarck formerly of Dickinson, ND, passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck, ND. Funeral Mass will be 10 a. m. , Monday, May 11, 2009, at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church Dickinson, ND, with Father Todd Kreitinger celebrating. Burial will follow in the St. Patrick?s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p. m. to 9 p. m. , Sunday, May 10, 2009, at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson, ND with a rosary and vigil service at 7 p. m. Visitation will continue on Monday one hour prior to the service at Stevenson Funeral Home. Betty was born on February 23, 1920, in Gladstone, ND, the daughter of Andrew and Christina (Avender) Haich. She grew up and attended country school north of Gladstone. She moved to San Francisco, CA, as a young girl and worked as a housekeeper for a few years. She returned to North Dakota and married Mathew Sickler. While Math served in the Army Air Core, they made their home in southern California where two of their children were born. After the service, the family moved back to Gladstone where they farmed and raised the rest of the family. To this union seven children were born. In 1972, they moved to Dickinson where Betty managed the R & E Health Food Store from 1975 until 1991. Betty was a member of St. Patrick?s Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, past member of the Gladstone KCettes and the Garden Club. She enjoyed sewing, especially making treasured blankets for the grandchildren, gardening, and baking. She loved and enjoyed being with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include, five sons, Jim (Kathy) Sickler, Bismarck, ND, Gary (Ardyce) Sickler, Bismarck, ND, Glen (Joan) Sickler, Gladstone, ND, Howard (Kate) Sickler, Whitewood, SD, and Warren (Kimm) Sickler, Dickinson, ND; two daughters, Diane (Glenn) Faiman, Bismarck, ND, and Yvonne ( Steve) Burcell, Peoria, AZ, 22 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, a brother, Felix (Mary) Haich, Gladstone, ND, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Mathew; two brothers and four sisters.
