Beverly passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson, ND.
Beverly Ann was born on December 31, 1929 in Clatskanie, OR, the daughter of Ernie F. and Beatrice C. (Eyman) Chenoweth. She attended grade school at Westport, OR and Lincoln High School in Portland, OR and then returned to Corvallis High School her senior year in 1948 to graduate with her original classmates. She attended classes in San Francisco to be certified as a Dental Assistant and worked for Dr. Barber for two years. In 1950 she visited her mother near Hamilton, MT where she met Chester L. Coons. The two were married on October 22, 1950 in Vancouver, WA and returned to make their home on the family ranch southeast of Ekalaka, MT near Belltower. It was here where they raised their two children, Tom and Carole. Beverly attended summer class at Black Hills State and Eastern Montana College, where she earned her Montana Teaching certificate. Beverly taught at many different rural schools for several years as well as 20 years of teaching in Ekalaka Grade School. Besides Chet and her children, teaching and helping young minds develop was one of her greatest achievements in life. Bev was always proud of the many students she was given the opportunity to help educate and help prepare for life. After retirement it always made her feel good to have one of her students come up and say “Hi Mrs. Coons,” and give her a hug. What a way to put a smile on her face!
Beverly served as a board member for: Town Council, Museum, Eastern Star, Chamber of Commerce and District President for VFW Auxiliary. She was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary #7885 and was a current member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #3 in Dickinson, ND. Through the years Beverly had many different hobbies such as knitting, crocheting and even oil painting. Tom and Carole are very proud of the paintings they have of the old house on Box Elder. Scattered around the community and among family members are many crotched Barbie Bride dolls that Beverly made and hundreds of dishtowels that were given away through out the years. Beverly was very proud of the many ribbons she won for her craft work at the Carter County Fair.
Beverly is survived by her daughter, Carole (Robert) Kittelmann of Phoenix, AZ; son, Thomas (Loraine) Coons of Dickinson, ND. Five grandchildren Chad (Jenny) Kittelmann, Jayson (Melissa) Kittelmann, Willi (Elham) Coons, Zac (Rachel) Coons and Tomi Coons; eight great-grandchildren Andrew, Connor, Olivia, Brady Kittelmann, Caden, Cable, Evan and Emma Coons. She could always stop and talk about the feelings she had for her grandchildren and great grand-children that she missed being around so much.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernie and Beatrice Chenoweth and husband, Chester “Chet” Coons.
