Funeral Mass for Robert ?Bob? Kovar, 81, of Amidon, will be 1:00 p. m. , Friday, September 23, 2011 at St. Mary?s Catholic Church, New England, ND with Father Patrick Moore, O. S. B. celebrating. Burial will be in the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, Amidon, ND. Visitation for Bob will be from 6:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. , Thursday, September 22, 2011 at St. Mary?s Catholic Church, New England, ND with a rosary and vigil service being held at 7:00 p. m. Visitation will continue from 10:00 a. m. to 1:00 p. m. on Friday, September 23, 2011 at the church. Bob passed away Saturday, September 17, 2011 at St. Benedict?s Health Center in Dickinson. Robert Kovar was born June 23, 1930 to Henry and Anna (Paska) Kovar at the Kovar Ranch 3 ? miles east of Amidon; where he lived all of his life. He went to White Lake Grade School which was located across the road from his home, where he had perfect attendance. Bob graduated from New England Public High School in 1948. He played baseball for the American Junior Legion, the Amidon Rangers and the New England Fireman Teams. Bob was considered one of the best baseball pitchers in this part of the state. He was a true Minnesota Twins fan. On October 15, 1953, Bob married Jeanne Fresonke. During this time, Bob took over the management of the Kovar Ranch. He was a dedicated stockman, spending numerous days and nights with his cows. In 2004, Bob was named Commercial Breeder of the Year by the North Dakota Angus Association. Bob loved his family and his grandchildren were very special to him. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards and sports events. Bob was a past member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Amidon where he was a trustee as well as a Eucharistic Minister. After the church closed, he became a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church in New England. He was also a member of the Elks Club, the Knights of Columbus Club and the German Hungarian Club. He was a member of and past President of the Slope County Fair Board as well as Treasurer for the White Lake Township for 59 years. He enjoyed performing in many plays at the Slope County Fair. Bob is survived by his wife, Jeanne of Amidon; three sons, Tracy (Katy) Kovar of Bismarck, Lyle (Doreen) Kovar and Rocky Kovar both of New England; one daughter, Judy (Bruce) Bender of New England; nine grandchildren, Kristin (Brock) Schoch, McCall (TeeJay) Zenker, Sunni Kovar, Marcus Kovar, Tony Kovar, Daniel Kovar, Branigan Bender, Jordyn Bender and Brady Bender; one great-grandchild, Boston Schoch; three sisters-in-law, Rosina Kovar of Denver, CO, Rita Hagen of Vallejo, CA and Dolores Fresonke of Buckley, WA; and one brother, Hank (Ardelle) Kovar of New England. He was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Mary; his parents, Henry and Anna Kovar; two brothers, Dennis and Gordon Kovar; one infant sister; and one sister, Sr. Vivian Kovar O. S. B.
