Brenda passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023 in Kansas City, MO.

Brenda was born on August 29, 1961, always living her life with a big heart and a quirky sense of humor, touching the lives of many with her extraordinary musical talent and love for all creatures. Regarded by many as a highly unique and sensitive soul, Brenda’s personality was often described as witty and silly. She had a remarkable way with people, a trait that extended to her songwriting where she often crafted quirky and touching tunes about her family, her pets, and her passion for music.

Arguably, Brenda’s most proud achievement was singing back up for Charley Pride for a decade. She toured with him and the band to England, Ireland, and Scotland and graced the stages of the Charley Pride Theater and the Grand Palace. Her music career reached another high note when she opened for Wayne Newton, Alabama, and most recently Pam Tillis. Before these achievements, her career began to take off with the creation of her band, Quarter Moon. She not only wrote and performed original material across the Midwest but also showcased her multitude of musical talents by playing a variety of instruments. Besides her gifted singing voice, she also played the flute, organ, saxophone, guitar, and various percussion instruments. Later in life she and her late husband, Andy Coin, formed the “Coin Collection” where she continued to share her musical talents alongside his. In high school she even wrote the Trinity High School graduation song for the class of ’79.

Brenda always encouraged everyone around her to persistently pursue their dreams and remain true to themselves by her own act of doing so. This is a lesson that she embodied throughout her life, and it undoubtedly contributed to her noteworthy accomplishments in the music industry.

Her musical legacy will continue to live on, serving as an homage to her incredible talent and dedication to her craft. Not just her amazing covers, especially her original tunes, embedded with a silly wit, will continue to resonate with those lucky enough to have heard them.

Brenda is survived by her father, David Franchuk; brother and sister-in-law, Greg and Tammy Franchuk; niece and nephew, Jenny and Jesse Franchuk, and their families; and her step-children from her marriage to Andy Coin; Troy, Jesse, Shelby, and Hattie who will miss her dearly along with all those who had the pleasure of knowing Brenda. Even though she may no longer be with us, her memory, her music, and her profound love for family and animals will continue to inspire those who knew her.
