Funeral Services for Caren Mae Hummell, 93 of Baker will be Friday, October 7, 2004 at 11:00 a. m. at Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker with Pastor Stephen May officiating. Burial will be in Nelson Nebraska. Mae passed away Monday, October 4, 2004 at Fallon Medical Complex in Baker. Mae was born December 10, 1910 at Nelson, Nebraska, the daughter of Peter and Margaret (Kieth) Peterson. She attended school in Nelson and graduated from High School there. She was married Paul Hummell August 14, 1932 at Belleville, Kansas. One daughter was born to this union: Joan Beverly. Mae attended Peru State Teachers College and taught two years in rural schools. Her hobbies were collecting cookbooks, recipes, cooking, study of antiques and square dancing. She loved to watch football and play cards. Mae was a member of The First Presbyterian Church and active in the church circles and other activities. She worked diligently in Girl Scout Program and was a district president in Nebraska. Mae had been a resident of FMC for five years and dearly loved her daily visits from her grandson Cameron, the many visits from the Pink Ladies and area church members. She and Paul lived in many states because he was in private construction and later Construction Superintendent for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the US Park Service. Survivors include her daughter Joan Beverly Caldwell of Arizona; three grandchildren Caren (Dean) Hass of Beulah, North Dakota; Melanie (Del) Espinosa of Baker, Montana; Gregory (Theresa) Caldwell of Little Rock, Arkansas; seven great-grandchildren and one sister Margaret Jean Williams, Hastings, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul, son-in-law Allen, infant brother Keith, two brothers H. D Peterson, W. E. Peterson. A Memorial has been established at The Fallon Medical Complex
