Funeral Services for Carl J. Deviney, 85, of Baker, MT will be 11:00 a. m. on Thursday, April 15, 2010 in the Chapel of Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker with the Rev. Father Thomas Tobin officiating and Rev. Mark D. Arnold co-officiating. Interment will follow in Bonnievale Cemetery at Baker with Military Rites by the Baker American Legion, Fallon Post #35 and the Montana National Guard Honor Guard. Visitation will be 1:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. on Wednesday with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p. m. at Stevenson Funeral Home. Carl passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at the Fallon County Medical Complex Nursing Home in Baker. Carl Jack Deviney or ?CJ? as he was known was born on January 17, 1925, in Red River County, TX a son of Albert Jack ?AJ? and Julia (Delese) Deviney. CJ grew up in Dimple, TX where he attended school. Following school, he moved to Hartshorne, OK where he worked as a truck driver. On June 30, 1943, CJ married his best friend and soul mate, Ruth Sehon in Clarksville, TX. To this union CJ and Ruth were blessed with four children, Brenda, Carolyn, Jack and Sherrie. On December 18, 1943, CJ entered the United States Navy and served in the South Pacific until his Honorable Discharge on February 1, 1946. Following his discharge, CJ worked in Clarksville as a truck driver, in Morton, TX as a sharecropper and then as a truck driver in Levelland, TX. In 1949, CJ went to work for Superior Oil as a driller on a wildcat drilling rig. This took the family to Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Utah, Kansas, and Colorado and eventually to Montana. In 1962, CJ took a job as a field supervisor with Big John?s Oilfield Construction. While in Montana, CJ went to work for Union Texas Natural Gas as a gas plant operator in the Pine Unit Oilfield in southern Wibaux County. He eventually become the assistant superintendent of the plant, and later on transferred over to Shell Oil where he worked until his retirement in 1990. CJ loved spending time with his family; especially the trips he made throughout the United States with Ruth, camping and RVing. Attending car auctions, he had a passion for rebuilding cars and selling them. CJ was an outdoors person and enjoyed hunting, fishing. He was always ready for playing dominos and checkers with his grandchildren. CJ?s greatest love in life was for his family. CJ was a member of St. John?s Catholic Church in Baker, and was a past member of the Elks Lodge in Oklahoma. CJ is survived by his loving wife, Ruth of Baker, MT; his children, Brenda (Mike) O?Connor, New Leipzig, ND, Carolyn (Jack) Hadley, Baker, MT, Jack (Vivika) Deviney, Douglas, WY and Sherrie (Ralph) Sonsalla, Bowman, ND; 11 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild and one brother, JT (Alice) Deviney, Bromide, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Charles and Albert Deviney, two sisters, Helen Potts and Sybil Deviney and a granddaughter, Erika Deviney.
