Carl F. Grieb, 79, of Ekalaka passed away at Dahl Memorial Health Care on Thursday February 6, 2003. Carl was born in Tacoma, Washington on February 28, 1923 to Arthur and Agnes (Anderson) Grieb. Carl grew up in the Longview, Washington area; he enjoyed spending time on the beach with his grandparents in Rosedale, Washington. Carl and his good buddy, Don Sehmel, dug a 22 foot well by hand and with the $22. 00 he earned he bought his first car, a 1931 Ford Roadster. On December 11, 1941 he joined the Navy and spent the next four years aboard ammunition ships in the Pacific. He came home from the Navy and entered into an electrician apprentice program. This experience gave him a life long career that he passed on to his boys. Carl spent 42 years as an Electrical contractor. In 1947 Carl married Gertrude Lee and to this union Janette and Stacy were born. They later divorced. On September 3, 1966 he married Darlene (Stigen) Hoffman and gained six more children. Family was very important to Carl; his mother, sister, and brothers and their families were very dear to him. Carl loved the waters of Puget Sound in the Pacific Northwest, boating and fishing was of utmost importance to him. In Ekalaka he enjoyed the hunting, the beautiful countryside and spending time at the Schultz ranch. Carl and his dog Ben spent many hours together as Carl built the bunk house, fruit cellar and fences. He collected guns and took part in muzzle loading events. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and son Robert Hoffman in December of 2002. Carl is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Darlene, sons Stacy (Sheryl) Grieb of Everett, Washington; John (Sandy) Hoffman of Santa Maria, California; Patrick (Kerri) Grieb of Sequim, Washington; Rick (Bonnie) Reese of Everett, Washington; daughters, Kristi Molina and Janette Grieb both of Bremerton, Washington; Kandis (Buster) Brewer of Ekalaka. Grandsons, Aaron (Kim) Swanson their children Zach, Kelly & Levi; Michael (Stephanie) Blue their child Trevor; Garrett Brieb, Justin Hoffman, Shane & Michael Grieb, Chris Keithley; granddaughters Amy (Nate) Berg, their children Wyatt, Wade, & Megan Blue; Crystal Boreson, Brandi Brewer, Amber Grieb and many nieces and nephews. Memorial Service will be held Tuesday February 11th 2003 at 10:30 AMat the First Baptist Church in Ekalaka with Pastor Steve DeFord officiating.
